Susan Boyle on Southpark (Video)

Friday, April 24, 2009

Susan Boyle's meteoric rise to fame has continued after she was name-checked in an episode of cult cartoon South Park.

Susan Boyle from Britain's Got Talent 2009.

In Fatbeard, the characters decide to run away from home and join a pirate crew in Somalia.

Kyle's little brother, Ike, wrote a letter to their parents saying Boyle, star of Britain's Got Talent, had made him take drastic action.

He said: "Dear Mommy and Daddy - I am running away. I am sorry but I can no longer handle the monotony of middle class life.

"Everyone at school is a ******* idiot and if one more person talked to me about that Susan Boyle performance of Les Miserables I was going to puke my balls out through my mouth.

"I love you all - but I have to move on. I'm going to Somalia to be a pirate."

Although Boyle does not appear in the Comedy Central show, the mention of her name is bound to raise her profile even more.

Boyle, dubbed by some as the Hairy Angel, joins a list of stars who have been parodied in South Park, including Britney Spears and Michael Jackson.

More than 100 million people have now seen her performance of Les Miserables, and has got the backing of celebrities including Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.

Meanwhile, a picture has emerged of Boyle after she dyed her wiry grey hair brown in a makeover reportedly costing £35.

Show bosses had apparently wanted to keep her just the way she was, ahead of the finals.

Jazz play Lakers in game 3, so where's the ‘Jazz Fever?'

Thursday, April 23, 2009

SALT LAKE CITY -- So far, round 1 of the playoffs has been a little rough for the Jazz. They lost the first two games in Los Angeles. They have some injuries and is there any "Jazz fever" from the fans?

It's a little quite on the plaza at EnergySolutions a few hours before tip-off, but come game time, it will be very loud inside.

The Jazz front office says the game will be a sellout, and Jazz fans always come through and scream, even when the team is down.

The building is kind of bare on the outside. There are no giant banners with playoff logos or players wrapping the building. Jazz officials say they may do some decorating later if the team advances. But for now, the money used for banners is being used to pay for entertainment inside the arena during the time-outs and such.

The Fanzz Store is fully stocked with dozens of items with logos and players' names. And there are some good deals in there too--some of the shirts and jerseys are 40 percent off right now.

And if you're a collector, there will be a silent auction of autographed items on the main concourse: pictures, balls, shoes etc.

The Jazz have done this several times this season, and these auctions raise thousands of dollars for various charities.

To gauge the feeling of the fans, we checked in with 30-year season ticket holder John Sudbury. He always sees a silver lining. He said, "I just think the way we've kind of fallen a little south in April, when we played the last part of the season. I think we've kind of fallen down a little bit, so I think, I know some people sitting around me who didn't renew their playoff tickets because they didn't think, especially drawing the Lakers, that we had a chance. Hey there's a game, we got a chance!"

And remember, the Jazz always play well at home: even against the Lakers!

American Idol 2009 Top 7 Part 2 Performances Tonight

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

American Idol's disco night wasn't as much fun as it usually is; not even the usual wildy-creative Adam Lambert performance could save it.

I think as we get closer to the end, the finalists are playing it safe instead of letting loose and going for it. Either that or they just really can't pick good songs. I mean, three Donna Summers songs?!

Adam Lambert's slowed-down, soulful "If I Can't Have You" was easily the best of the night--as Simon said, nobody's ever heard the song like that. It didn't give me goosebumps like some of his other performances, but it's one I'd watch again.

Kris Allen was next-best, taking an Adam-like risk with his guitar and folk art take on "She Works Hard for the Money." I didn't love it, but liked that he tried something different, and he definitely has charisma. Best part was it prompted Paula's comment about how much she loved that Kris went "shopping in the women's department."

Allison Iraheta did well with "Hot Stuff," vamping it up a bit; I keep waiting for her to really wow us, it's coming--right?! Likewise, Danny Gookey showed off his pipes with "September," the same way he's done every other week. And Anoop Desai broke out the pink sweater and stubble for "Dim All the Lights," which is all anyone will be talking about after an 'eh' performance from Noop Dawg.

If only Anoop could've stolen "Stayin' Alive" away from Matt Giraud , who sang it earnestly but a bit blandly, actually -- it's a song that needs to be vamped up, and the piano player from Kalamazoo just wasn't the one to do it.

Finally, Lil Rounds is going to get cut tomorrow for sure, after a lackluster "I'm Every Woman." She was a metaphor for the night--it could've been great given her vocal talents, but something was just missing.

Nobody had that element of wildness, the totally hedonistic 'dance like crazy and live-for-the-moment cause we'll probably all be dead tomorrow' attitude that was the Me Decade. Haven't these kids ever seen the Village People? Sister Sledge? Diana Ross?

Was American Idol's disco night everything you thought it would be? Besides Adam Lambert, did anyone else stand out for you? Tell us in the comments, below.
